About US

Stacy Azar and Mick Dunne met while Stacy was working on her Master's at the University of Western Australia in Perth, Western Australia. We like to tell people that we met while ballroom dancing, but truth be told...we met at a pub! No one ever thinks they will meet their husband or wife at a pub, especially on Grand Final night (same as the US Super Bowl)! Mick had been at the pub for nearly 7 hours before him and a mate came and sat down next to me and a friend of mine (we had only been there half an hour or so!). Between him and his friends, they memorized my phone number (3 digits a piece!) so that they could call me to go waterskiing (they claimed that they were always needing a 3rd to go skiing...I like to believe Mick just wanted to ask me out!). Needless to say, Mick called a couple of days later, and we talked for a couple of weeks on the phone every night for hours upon hours (much to his younger brother's dislike!), and eventually went out on a date the next time he came to Perth. He is from a town called Beacon, which is about a three and a half hour drive from Perth. As a farmer, he didn't make it to Perth that often, but we would make good use of any time he could spare...becoming regulars at the local Irish Pub/Nightclub, and many local restaurants near my apartment. After meeting Mick, my studies suddenly were no longer my top priority. On our second date, Mick asked me, "So...what are you looking for?" At 21 years old, I was a bit dumbfounded, and felt that this was likely a question that didn't have a right answer. I told him I wasn't sure. Then I turned the tables around on him, and asked him, "What are you looking for?" In a matter of fact tone, he replies, "A Wife!" Well then...the brain starts thinking...ummm...what's the fastest way back to Perth at 11pm??? No, it wasn't that bad, but it was kind of a shock. Needless to say, I was thrilled at the possibility, because I just thought (and think) that he is the best thing ever! We spent 2 more years living in Western Australia (I was trying desperately to concentrate on my post graduate studies, but my mind was only thinking about Mick). I would work on my dissertation remotely from the farm, and email it to my supervisor in Perth. I finally finished it up, and we decided to come to America for a while. A while has turned into 7 years. We try to go back "home" once a year, because we want our kids to have a strong relationship with their grandparents and other family members over in Australia. We currently live in Salisbury, Maryland. We are now in our second home, and we have two darling children.
